The cure for a sad heart

August 19, 2007

I have troubled skin. And my skin has pretty much been through it all. Clinique, Biotherm, regular soap, Neutrogena, you name it and I’ve been there, done that. Its like relationships you try on but they never seem to fit your needs. Luckily, I found the perfect cure for my sadness, and believe it or not, its not facial alcohol, or chocolate.

The thing is, I just tried the ultimate mega cure against blemishes and the weird part is, my dad always said I should try it but I never did cause i thought..what does my dad know about female vanity and its superficial needs? Then i saw a huge article about the very same ingredient my dad has been telling me about for ages and how curable it is for different factors, including skin blemishes. So basically, what my dad has been telling me for ages, is now written on paper, so i thought, maybe I should try it anyway.

What I’m talking about? I have one word for you. SALT.

The procedure is fairly simple, after regular face wash, mix 2 tbs of Mediterranean salt with 2 tbs of rapeseed oil, scrub a fair amount and try to avoid eye contact, we’re still talking about salt here, and it stings, but it works. I’d do this procedure at least once a week, preferably twice after steam bath if skin is stubborn. I however wouldn’t advise this procedure to people with very sensitive skin, and since I’m not a licensed dermatologist, I would very much recommend that one should be careful in any case regarding face. That includes choice of products, make-up and anything that might touch the face.

After all my skin has been through, it finally met its match. And its better than chocolate, at least on the outside.

Chop a few slices of ginger to your facial steam bath. Cleansing for both face and throat.

Est voila!

Sarah & the city

August 13, 2007

If anyone is a living legend, Its her. Sarah Jessica Parker. Still up and running, this ultimate fashionista has under 2007 promoted her new fragrance -Covet- as well as her new clothing line -Bitten- with the statement that fashion isn’t a luxury. Her style is just as nostalgic as romantic, with her long golden locks and Manolo Blahniks, this gal is the ultimatum of a woman. She dares to be different.

SJP slash Carrie Bradshaw has given fashionistas worldwide not only a platform for mode, but as a role model, she has indeed released a great deal of inspiration. Of sex and the city, there are various memorable outfits. Like the newspaper-printed dress with gold sleeves, or the black and white suit on the way to Vogue, or the black bra under her white tanktop.

So, is it agreeable that Sarah Jessica Parker is an icon of luxury? My answer? Abso-fucking-lutely.

What is more classical and timeless than jeans and a tee that makes a statement? This outfit is my absolute favorite. Why? It works with flip flops and a skulled scarf in a shopping mall, it works with rolled up jeans and strappy sandals on a first date, it works with high heeled boots on a bar night, or during school hours, after hours, even with a 3/4 blazer and a very expensive handbag to a lovely dinner, if the jeans are either black or grey and the tee is plain, loose and long in length.

Now, tee’s come in millions of shapes, colors, sizes, even plains. Everyone knows it and thus takes it for granted. Tee’s can be a lot more fun and expressing than people might think. Not to mention fashionable and stylish. And it has a way of looking casual yet edgy. T names on A-lists so far are -its- like Teenage Millionaire, Ed hardy, Junk food and Sinful. These designer are all in my favor because these people really do put an edge to fashion. And its nothing but to love.

Smoke it Sexy

August 10, 2007

There are a few basics in make-up a woman needs to have in her sleeve for different occasions. One of the most classical and elegant as well as important [not to mention really hard to master] is the smoky eye make-up, which is just as good for cocktail parties, the red carpet or a regular club night out.

Since the effect of this type of make-up creates very intensive eyes, the rest of the face looks far better off looking natural, which makes focus on eyes only. This means that the foundation should be light consistent and blemishes or other spots covered with concealer. Blush ons should be softly blended in with sun powder and lips need as little color as possible. A warm beige lipstick with a hint of lip gloss on the centers does the trick for the perfect pout.

As for the question of hows in creating this catlike-smoky-eye-effect, watch, listen and practise.

Fall On Your Knees

While most scandinavians and other cold blooded countries try their best to hold on to the late summer in flipflops, blue jeanshorts or the little white dress for as long as possible, Ive taken the opportunity to check out fresh flow from my favourite season, the fall collections.

This very sooncoming season is all about Elegance and attitude in the eyes of fashionistas and modemakers. A ready-made example would in my choice be in the clutch of the little black dress, a big cashmire scarf fluffed around the neck, a pair of kneehigh flat heeled boots, a grey leather jacket and a big black bag. And if the weather approves, grey legwarmers or this seasons it-accessory: the oversized snowcap. Although this may not be such a smart thing to wear for a month or two, or atleast until celsius/fahrenheit degrees have allowed it.

The catwalk was as usual, overwelmed in blackness and grey is absolutely the new brown. You could spot a poshpink or bluish accentcolour every here and there but its all about, as I’ve hinted earlier, green. Since the different designerhouses where unusually unsimilar, the best thing to do, as always, is to just be yourself. Long dresses, short dresses, hoodies, you name it. Whether its dark and punky, fresh cutting, futuristik or sophisticated, its all in the bag. The trick is to inhale abit of everything to your advantage. Which doesnt include dressing in funeral black from top to toe or looking far too preppy. Enough is enough.

Something interesting that has happened this year is that Karl Lagerfeldt [whom people may among others recognize from the collection he made for H&M] has this year made a designed collection for Chanel and it is, just like him, masculine. Male cotoure cuts was there through the entire show and the most work had been laid on the side effects of the outfits. Simply flat on the front and curvy on the side.

And guys, believe it or not but the whole broad shoulder era from the God-knows-what-century is beginning to set its traces in the fashion world. That particular part of design is something I just can’t live up to because to me, it just looks like one is wearing an oversized hanger. Compensate instead on puff shoulders, they’re much more pleasant to wear and you don’t have to worry about hideous pillows on your shoulders.

And just for the record, welcome ;]
